The largest town in Champasak province, the town of Pakse sits at the confluence the Mekong River and the Se Don, from which it gets its name (Pakse means 'mouth of the river Se'). The town is home to the biggest fresh market in Laos, and a daily riverfront pig market where locals haggle with Vietnamese traders for the best price. Peaceful evenings in Pakse can be spent dining on floating restaurants as the sun sinks into the Mekong.
